Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.04%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 10.98% or 1.14 points to trade at 11.52 at the close. Meanwhile, MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA) added 4.91% or 2.11 points to end at 45.09 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) was up 4.18% or 0.93 points to 23.17 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bird Construction Inc . (TSX:BDT), which fell 3.66% or 0.93 points to trade at 24.51 at the close. TerraVest Industries Inc (TSX:TVK) declined 2.68% or 3.82 points to end at 138.96 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was down 2.32% or 0.91 points to 38.25.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 464 to 385 and 93 ended unchanged.
Shares in SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.18% or 0.93 to 23.17.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.17% to 9.88.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.60 to $3,382.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.30% or 0.83 to hit $63.13 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.69 to trade at $66.15 a barrel.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 97.71.
