Brazil stocks lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.01%

Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.01%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Marfrig Alimentos SA (BVMF:MRFG3), which rose 8.75% or 1.88 points to trade at 23.36 at the close. Meanwhile, Companhia Brasileira De Distribuica (BVMF:PCAR3) added 6.74% or 0.18 points to end at 2.85 and BRF SA (BVMF:BRFS3) was up 5.62% or 1.06 points to 19.93 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Embraer SA (BVMF:EMBR3), which fell 4.21% or 3.40 points to trade at 77.29 at the close. Sao Martinho SA (BVMF:SMTO3) declined 3.67% or 0.62 points to end at 16.29 and Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (BVMF:CSNA3) was down 2.87% or 0.20 points to 6.77.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 517 to 418 and 58 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sao Martinho SA (BVMF:SMTO3) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.67% or 0.62 to 16.29. Shares in Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (BVMF:CSNA3) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.87% or 0.20 to 6.77.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.41% to 24.03 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 1.03 to $3,382.17 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.28% or 0.82 to hit $63.14 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 5.16% or 16.85 to trade at $343.35 .

USD/BRL was down 0.29% to 5.40, while EUR/BRL rose 0.19% to 6.32.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 97.71.
